ABOUT US

The Navy League was founded in 1902 with the enthusiastic support of President Theodore Roosevelt to promote the need for strength in American sea power.  As Assistant Secretary of the Navy and recipient of both the Nobel Peace Prize and Congressional Medal of Honor, Roosevelt fully understood that superior sea power sustains peace and is a deterrent to war.

The Navy League also promotes a safe, secure, efficient and environmentally sound U.S. maritime transportation system to meet national security needs, and enhance our quality of life and economic prosperity

Since our founding 100 years ago, the Navy League has always relied on the unwavering patriotism, dedication, and determination of Americans to support our maritime forces and American sea power.  And if there was ever a time when the armed forces, and in particular the sea services, need a strong voice - it's now.  We know that a strong national defense is essential to realizing a lasting peace, at home and around the world.

Your generous contribution plays an important role in helping the Navy League of the United States serve as the supportive voice through educating Americans and our government about the importance of our country's sea power, global peace and economic stability.

Today the Navy League's original mission translates into two main initiatives.  First, the Navy League's public education efforts are designed to inform the nation, and its political leaders, of the vital importance of a comprehensive and fully prepared sea service.  Secondly, through a network of 330 councils in the United States and throughout the world, the Navy League provides support for active duty sea services personnel and their families.  In keeping with its educational objective, the Navy League also supports America's young people through successful youth programs, including the sponsorship of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, and the Navy League REScholarship Program.

Your contribution to the Navy League allows us to continue educating and motivating the American people to support our maritime capabilities, services, and personnel.
