PACIFIC DIVISION
ADOPTS GOLDEN BEAR
In a
ceremony at the California Maritime Academy, in the presence
of more than 80 Pacific Central Region Navy Leaguers, the
Stockton Council's Pacific Divison adopted the training ship
GOLDEN BEAR on 2 April 2005. Pacific Division president,
Kate Walters presented Cal Maritime Superintendant, RADM
William Eisenhardt and captain of the GOLDEN BEAR, Captain
John Keever, with a beautifully framed adoption certificate
and formally proclaimed Pacific Division's commitment to
support GOLDEN BEAR. Superintendant Eisenhardt and Captain
Keever were both heartened and thankful for the
establishment of this new and unique relationship. In her
remarks, Pacific Central Region President, Jeanne Sharkey
indicated that, to her knowledge, no such relationship
between a Council's college division and a college training
ship has previously existed in the Navy League. Following
the ceremony, an informative presentation by RADM Eisenhardt
and a luncheon in the Cal Maritime dining facility, the
group had the opportunity to tour the GOLDEN BEAR and the
campus. Stockton council was well represented at the
ceremony by President Jim Dodge, Pacific Division Liaison
representatives Cole and Carol Ann Hackley, member Capt. Al
Beishline (ret) and nine members of the Pacific Division.
As a final gesture of support for the new relationship,
Captain Keever invited the Pacific Division to embark on
GOLDEN BEAR in October during Fleet Week 2005.
